101 ways with bananas

January 27th, 2010 in European travel by Sarah Lee 1

Ok get your minds out of the gutter straight away – this is a travel blog! This week the greatest number of British travel journalists ever in one place has amassed in the Canary Island of Tenerife. This is the first time I’ve attended the annual meeting of the British Guild of Travel Writers (BGTW) […]

Have free wifi? Sell it

January 12th, 2010 in Free wifi campaign by Sarah Lee 0

As I started this post I was convinced of one thing – though travellers want free wifi in hotels, hoteliers themselves don’t see any value in it. I have started a twitter list detailing hotels that offer free wifi and it has grown some, but one major problem is that hotels don’t always promote their service even […]

Making luxury holidays work for you

January 11th, 2010 in Shared ownership by Sarah Lee 2

I’ve made no secret of the fact that I like luxury accommodation when travelling. Let’s be clear, it’s a holiday not hard time, so I opt for quality accommodation. In this I know I’m by no means alone – the luxury travel market has grown exponentially in recent years and there are more and more […]

'Staycationers' stay away

December 11th, 2009 in UK travel by Sarah Lee 1

According to the managing director of Butlins the big 2009 staycation (the term for taking a UK holiday) revolution never materialised: http://bit.ly/87bRAX Earlier this year I was wondering about this much talked about phenomena and concluded back in the summer that staycations, like nano-breaks and other ridiculous sounding ‘new’ ways to beat the recession and […]

Find hotels with free wifi

Find a free wifi hotel

December 4th, 2009 in Free wifi campaign by Sarah Lee 0

Two weeks ago I posted in support of a growing campaign to see more hotels offer free wifi to guests – you can read that post here. To help people locate a hotel offering guests this basic-level service I started a twitter list. The list is growing and there are a few brands on it, from the exclusive to the budget conscious, offering free wifi across their chain of hotels. Red Carnation, Best Western, Days Inn and City Inn, for example, deserve particular recognition.

Can we handle our drink?

December 4th, 2009 in Cruising by Sarah Lee 0

Feverish headlines this week announced that Celebrity Cruises is set to launch ‘booze cruises’. The meat of the story is that the line is launching all-inclusive alcohol packages for cruisers. When I first experienced cruising I was surprised to discover that drinks were not included in the price of your cruise (perhaps some of this […]

Apple's Tablet – a media revolution

December 3rd, 2009 in Tech by Sarah Lee 0

I’m very excited. I’ve just watched the video above of Sports Illustrated’s vision for publishing their magazine on Apple’s much talked about Tablet. The Tablet is the rumoured-to-be new netbook with touchscreen capabilities that Apple is said to be launching next year (more on the possible spec here). Until now I hadn’t realised the incredible […]

London, a cultural classic

November 30th, 2009 in Featured by Sarah Lee 0

A few years ago I left the bright lights of London for a tiny Midlands village, but deep down I’m a city girl and London is one of my favourites. Of course most people love their hometown, but London, despite it’s many flaws (any commuter would happily fill you in on those) is one of the […]

Don't let the bad times roll

November 26th, 2009 in General by Sarah Lee 1

As the credit crunch and subsequent recession caused many of us to tighten our belts we’re all looking towards 2010 with a certain optimism. If we’re honest, we hope for a return to our pre-recession existence. For us travellers (those that don’t own a backpack and never will) that means luxuriating on lucious breaks or […]

Free wifi? Check me in!

November 25th, 2009 in Free wifi campaign by Sarah Lee 2

As I write this I’m sat in my local pub, enjoying the warming glow of it’s log fire and a glass of my favourite red. For a change I decided to bring my laptop to my local to work from here for a couple of hours. Like I say, this isn’t my usual workplace, but I […]
