Just how useful are travel reviews?

July 6th, 2010 in Cruising by Sarah Lee 12

I recently had the chance to sample Norwegian Cruise Lines’ latest ship Epic. I’ve just been reading through a fairly mixed bag of reviews of the ship – some saying it couldn’t be better, others quoting specific bad experiences and personal niggles. It’s made me wonder: how useful are travel reviews and do they say more about us than the hotel/ship/airline we’ve reviewed?

Entertainment on an Epic scale

July 4th, 2010 in Cruising by Sarah Lee 2

With today being American Independence Day its fitting New York’s Macy’s 4th of July fireworks are hosted by Epic, the new ship from Norwegian Cruise Lines. Entertainment is an intrinsic part of cruising and though it can amount to a few cheesy line dancing sessions it’s generally good – very good. But now Norwegian Epic is taking on-board entertainment to another level.

All aboard Norwegian Epic for a whistlestop tour

June 30th, 2010 in Cruising by Sarah Lee 1

I recently hopped aboard Norwegian Cruise Lines’ Epic for a nosey round ahead of the ship’s official naming ceremony in New York. The UK launch has been followed up by a fully-booked sailing to the city where Epic will host the 34th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks event before heading to its homeport of Miami on July 7 for it’s launch.

Norwegian Jade's bridge

View from the bridge

One of the great things about being a travel journalist is that sometimes you’re admitted to places few travellers get access to. One of these is the bridge of a cruise ship. I’m lucky enough to have been on the bridge of three ships now and it is a great experience – a chance to see what goes on while cruisers are relaxing on the sundeck.

NCL Jade – a whistle-stop tour

March 8th, 2010 in Cruising by Sarah Lee 0

Norwegian Cruise Line’s (NCL) ship Norwegian Jade is currently running itineraries from Barcelona to Morocco and the Canaries. I’ve just come back from a trip aboard Jade, here’s my fleeting tour of its main public areas (Blue Lagoon restaurant, the atrium/lobby, pool area — complete with performer Pablo Rodriguez, and pool bar).
